Okay, I admit I haven’t read any of the rebooted titles, but it seems to me that the point of the reboot should be to update the characters. What this piece tells us is that Starfire used to be a subject and now she’s an object. Which sounds like the opposite of an update to me.
(Incidentally, I always preferred Raven, but that’s just me.)
